Baptism in the Black Sea

I’ve always loved baptisms, it is a time that exudes hope and new life.  However, since moving to Ukraine I think I have started to like them even more!  We live less than 10 mins from the shore of the Black Sea so there is really no need to have a baptismal tank when you can use the one God created just down the street! I’d have to say there is also something special about doing baptisms in the sea under the open heavens, it makes you realize that God is looking down and smiling!

As usual we had the baptism at 8:30 AM and then went back to the church for th regular service which at 10:00.  I had the privilege of praying for those who were baptized and leading communion as well.

We also took a little time to honor all the students who are starting up school again.   Anastasia is in 1st grade now, which is a pretty big deal here. She joined the other 1st graders up front and even got a special gift from the church! At the end of the service we had all the students come up and I think more than half the church got out of their seats.  We prayed that God would bless the students and give them a successful school year.

I tried to select a few pictures that would give you a feel for things here so enjoy them!

You can also find more pictures of the baptism here and pictures of the church service here.

I remeber when Caleb and his wonderful wife came and visited a small Baptist church in Port Orchard WA and petitioned their goal of going to the Ukraine and trying to raise funds. Now look what the Lord has done through this hard working dedicated family. You folks have covered allot of ground. God bless you all.

Marlene, thanks so much for your kind words. God has given us many opportunities to serve him and we are trying to do our best to fulfill his calling! Btw, I’m pretty sure I remember meeting you, was it at Living Hope?
      Blessings!
