Have you ever woken up on Sunday morning and just not felt like going to church? I have and in those moments I can usually come up with a few great reasons why I shouldn’t go to church.
It’s boring
Then I realize it’s probably not fair to compare my church’s volunteer worship team to Justin Bieber’s latest million dollar music video. Come to think of it the Bible doesn’t really say anything about the entertainment value of worship. Maybe I should cut my church a little slack, stop being so self-centered and instead focus on giving God my best in worship, enjoying the fellowship and serving others, then things won’t seem so boring.
I’m tired
Of course it’s probably my fault that I stayed up late last night. I was watching a movie instead of preparing myself for worship with the family of God by getting a good night’s rest. If I let this one slip I’m about twice as likely to do it again and again. If Jesus prayed all night I can probably manage an hour and a half service with a good cup of coffee.
I don’t want a guilt trip
However, if my guilt is from God, then maybe He’s trying to tell me something. I can’t run from my problems forever, maybe it’s better to just face them head on and get them taken care of. It would probably be good for me to listen to the preaching of God’s Word and examine my own heart a bit.
Too many people
It’s true sometimes I just don’t feel like being around so many people, it makes me uncomfortable! Then I remember that the church is people! It is made up of people just like me, people who need me and people who I need. Jesus died for these people and it certainly won’t hurt me to spend a few hours with them!
