Athens

This week our mission has its regional conference in Greece. The conference is actually about an hour South of Thessaloniki. However, we had to arrive a few days early because our visa registration ran out on Oct. 15th and we didn’t want to take the risk of over staying our welcome and having to pay a fine or worst case scenario not being let back into Ukraine.

We took advantage of the couple extra days and decided to visit Athens and our good friend, Helen who lives there and works at the Greek Bible Institute. We were not disappointed in our visit. Athens is overflowing with ancient history. Of course, we didn’t have a whole lot of time so we decided to hit the most famous spot, the Acropolis, right in the middle of Athens.

The Acropolis was much more than we expected. It was amazing to walk in the same places Paul walked also such people as Aristotle, Plato and Socrates!

I posted a few picture below but if you would like to see the whole gallery you will find it here

Theseion, best perserved ancient temple 5th cen BC

The Roman Agora or market place where Paul preached the gospel.

Act 17:17 Then indeed he addressed the Jews in the synagogue, and those worshiping, and daily in the market, to those happening to be there.

The Areopagus or Mars Hill, with Athens in the background, where Paul preached his famous sermon.

Act 17:22 And standing in the middle of the Areopagus, Paul said, Men, Athenians, I see that you are fearful of gods in everything.

The greatest of the temples, the Parthenon on top of the Acropolis. This temple was about 500 years old and at the pinnacle of its use when Paul visited Athens.
