Empty Church Buildings and Orphans

By No tags 0

Yesterday I had the privilege of traveling to the village of Lymanske (about 85km from Odessa) with two guys from our church, Sergei and Kostya. We had been invited for the closing ceremony of a soccer camp that was conducted at a home for boys. This camp was run with the help of the local church and another brother from Odessa.

The village of Lymanske is right on the boarder of a rouge state called Transnistria which can be seen just across the lake. Before 1948 the village was called Frecatai and was a German settlement. I was surprised to see the remnants of an old Lutheran church right on the territory of the boys home where we conducted the closing ceremony.

Below are a few pictures of the old Lutheran church and of the concert that Sergei, Kostya and Oleg did for the boys. You can also view the photo gallery here

80 years ago this entrance welcomed hunderds every Sunday. Now on an occasion youth sneak in to drink a few beers with their friends.

Young girls walk by oblivious to the past.
