Originally we were supposed to fly out of Seattle on Tuesday morning, however, we missed this flight due to extremely long security lines at the airport. The airlines put us on the flight for the following day (Wednesday). We were actually quite pleased with this arrangement as it gave us a whole day of rest and relaxation before our trip. We spent Tuesday evening with family saying all our good-byes again 🙂
Because we were leaving a day later we ended up being on the same flight as the Kaletnik family. We have known Vasiliy and his wife Olga for several years. They immigrated to the US from Moldova about 7 years ago but then they decided to move back to Moldova as missionaries. We had a great time fellowshipping with them all the way to Kiev.
Both Christina and were surprised at how smoothly both of our flights went. The children were well behaved, all our luggage arrived when we did, no problems through customs or security and we got to travel with some great friends! We arrived in Kiev feeling more or less rested ready to go!
However, our trip wasn’t without some excitement. When we arrived in Kiev the steward announced over the PA system that everyone was to stay seated with their seat-belts on because the police would be boarding the plane. A few minutes later four police officers were escorting three hooligans off the plane who had been drinking and causing problems during the flight!
