The Secret of the Christmas Tree

Abby, Dabby, and Labby woke early on Christmas morning
Quietly, they tiptoed past their father’s loud snoring
In the living room stood the Christmas tree, bright and tall
But what they saw was not the tree, oh, not at all!

This silent green giant held a secret in its boughs
Yet the shining presents their attention did arouse
Untold goodness wrapped in red, gold, and green
Joy and happiness waiting to be seen.

How could they wait
With something so good at stake?
“Wake Mama and Papa!” Labby cried
But the other girls just stared with eyes wide

Just then, a familiar sound they heard
It uttered not a single word
But they knew from the noise
Santa was coming with even more toys!

The jingle of bells echoed throughout
He was coming in his sleigh, no doubt
Then, suddenly, with a giant boom
Santa appeared in that very room!

A bushy white beard and big red hat
He walked to the couch and there he sat!
Come, my dear girls, and sit with me
I’ll tell you the story of the Christmas tree!

These branches have something to say
They remind us that Jesus was born this day
Listen carefully, and I’m sure you’ll see
Something important in this tree

Take a look at its branches, so green
Beautiful boughs full and pristine.
These branches never wither or turn brown
Even in winter, its needles don’t fall down.

This evergreen is alive when everything is dead
Reminding us of what Jesus said
“Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live!”
The truest gift is life, which only Jesus can give.

Its powerful frame of wood is made
Just like the place where our sins were paid
Jesus’ body was hung on a cross of wood
He suffered and died even though he was good

We decorate this tree with lights for a reason
Because Jesus came to us in a dark season
Just as the tree gives light to this space
So Jesus brings us the light of his grace.

Dear girls, I want you to know
There’s something greater than the presents below
The Christmas tree tells the most important story
How Christ came to live and die for God’s glory.

Toys and gifts are a nice way
That we can show love for each other today
But far greater is the gift Jesus gave
When he died on the cross and rose from the grave.
