Violence Increasing in Kiev, Ukraine

I was planning to put up another podcast today, I had it all recorded and was working on getting the post up when I came across the video below documenting some of what has happened over the past couple of days in Ukraine.

It broke my heart for Ukraine!

It helped me to see how hopelessly confused people are without Jesus!

It brought me to my knees as I prayed for political peace in Kiev and spiritual peace for all Ukrainians!

All the clips in this video were shot in the last 2 days or so in Kiev, Ukraine.

Although the protests are now nearly 2 months old things are worse than ever. The last few days seem to have been the most violent yet.

People are Looking for a Hero

As the song in the video says, people are looking for a hero, they are looking for someone or something to save them. Many people have lost hope in the government and are demanding change.  They believe that a change in government will make things better.

How sad that so many don’t realize that the root of the problem is much deeper than any government can solve. The main problem in Ukraine and in every country is the condition of the hearts of its citizens!

While governments can offer people a degree of protection and stability there is one thing that no human government or politician can do.

They can’t fix man’s heart!

For that we need a hero, we need a hero like Jesus!

A hero who can fix our hearts and will provide the perfect government!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Ukraine needs your prayers!

Here are a few ways that you can pray for Ukraine during this critical time.

  • Pray that Ukraine’s political leaders would make wise decisions.
  • Pray for peace on the streets of Kiev.
  • Pray that God would use these events to help people see their need for Jesus.
  • Pray that the Church would use this time to boldly share the Good News.
  • Pray for wisdom and safety of all our Ukrainian brothers and sisters.

Question: How are people around you looking for a hero? How can you show them that Jesus is the hero that they need?

I’m praying. I know it must be very difficult to be away from your friends and your flock at a time like this, but God is in control. Thank you for this post and helping us to understand what is happening over there.

Thanks so much for your prayers Debi! It feels a little strange for me to be here in the US while all of that is going on in Ukraine. Two people from Ukraine called me today on Skype to give me some updates, so that made me feel a little closer to home.

I’m with Debi. I cannot imagine what it is like to be away from home, your church, your city at a time like this. Praying for you, your family, your church family and Ukraine.

It is a little tough but it helps me to realize that prayer really is the most important thing I can do right now.

Praying, Caleb. How we show the world the true hero in our Savior is by our actions, words come later. I appreciate your actions, Caleb.

I think your right Floyd, in a situation like this it’s vital that the Church show their love with their actions.

Depending on our national governments is not the end-all solution. It will eventually disappoint and disillusion us. Our Lord is the ultimate hero of heroes. There’s no disappointment or disillusionment with him, ever.

Amen Thomas! Jesus never lets us down but governments can. Ultimately if enough people turn to Jesus that will also change governments.

Praying for Ukraine. It’s been interesting to come across a handful of people with links to the nation (including you!) recently. It’s definitely on my map now.

Thanks again for helping with the course, I wanted to clean up the audio a bit to send back to you if you want to use it for your podcast or any other resources. I just got swamped…because all the people in the course don’t know how to use WordPress and I had to setup their blogs the past few weeks, haha.

Your interview was seriously a highlight of the course!

Praying for them and others in war-torn countries.
It’s so easy to be removed from it. But we all need to realize that that evil and hatred can so quickly happen anywhere. We all need God. We all need love. We all need to be aware and PRAY!

    Thank you for sharing this.

It’s so true! I’m amaze at how quickly much of this has gone out of control. Thanks for your prayers TC!

It really does spiral out of control so fast and it seems so hard for it to stop. My heart aches for you all and all those people. God help us.

Your post reminds me of the post election violence that rocked my country in ’08. After praying many prayers (and talking alot of talk), many of us came to understand that what our nation needed was not mere political or tribal peace but the Prince of Peace Himself. Seeing the situation from that perspective changes everything. I am praying for Ukraine today.

Ngina, it’s amazing how often this kind of thing actually happens in many countries, sad but true. We need the Prince of Peace!
