Babushka Olga lives in the small village of Nickamarovka about an hour and a half outside of Odessa. Although there is no church in her village for years she has run a Sunday School for the children. She was so happy when I brought two people from our team to visit her and ask if they could do a special children’s program at her house. She shared with us how she had been in the hospital for nearly a year with back problems. It as very frustrating for her to be away from the village and not be able to minister to the children. Finally she told the doctors she would be going home whether or not they wanted her to.
After enjoying some tea with her we went through the village and invited children to a special program the team would be doing on Friday. We were all encouraged by her evangelistic zeal to win the hearts of these kids for Christ.
20 kids showed on Friday for the program which was probably nearly every kid in the village. They all packed into Babushka Olga’s little house and listened intently to the story of how the Pilgrims gave thanks to God.
I must say that Babushka Olga was a great example and encouragement for me as someone who doesn’t give up on serving the Lord with all they have despite their age!
