What are you thankful for?
If you’re like me you can easily come up with a long list of nice things in your life.
However, what would you do if those these were all taken from you? Could you still give thanks then!
I encourage you to take 2 minutes to watch this short clip from last Sunday’s sermon.
We are thankful when we obtain that which we pursue in our lives.
If your main pursuit is for material things, position or pleasure then you can only be thankful when those temporary things are present.
If you want to be thankful in all situations you must be pursuing something eternal, you must pursue Jesus!
Micah
November 28, 2013This is very cool. I feel like I’ve been re-learning the value of thankfulness recently. It’s such a surprisingly powerful thing.
Caleb
November 29, 2013I think you’re right Micah, it can be powerful in our lives because we are acknowledging all the good that God has done and that also brings us hope. Blessings to you on Thanksgiving!

November 28, 2013“If your main pursuit is for material things, position or pleasure then you can only be thankful when those temporary things are present.” Excellent wisdom. As I was listening the words of our Savior came to mind, “For where your heart is there your treasure will be also.”
He is our Treasure and is the One that stays with us from this side to the other side of eternity.
Caleb
November 29, 2013Well said Floyd, he is our Treasure! Blessings to you on Thanksgiving!

November 29, 2013Just the title caught my attention. What we pursue, where we focus, is everything. And we need to constantly keep that reality in front of us if we are to believe we can run the race victoriously and to finish strong.
Caleb
December 2, 2013Thanks for your comment Kari, sorry to take so long to respond, things have been busy with visiting churches and other ministries going on. You’re right we do need to keep that reality in front of us. What you are saying reminds me of Paul’s exhortation in Philippians to run the race.

December 1, 2013A greater reflection on the “mundane” as a means to experiencing more joy…the everyday things that I don’t always appreciate!
PS Tell me more about that What I’m reading now widget please 🙂

December 2, 2013Hey David, I’m reading “Strange Fire? by John MacArthur right now. I just us the image widget from jet pack to put that on the right side panel. Tomorrow I fly to Ukraine and I’m taking the book with me so hopefully I can finish it up on the plane. I’ll be posting a review later this month.

December 4, 2013AMEN! Searching and seeking God in all we do is so essential. I’ve found this can be easier said than done. It’s a daily battle/challenge to shift our actions, attitude, and motives to God and not our own desires. Great video clip!!! Do you have the link for the entire sermon?
Caleb
December 11, 2013Hey, Dan, sorry to be so late in responding to you. I’ve been kind of busy with all the travel to Ukraine and back. Anyway, here is a link to the full sermon if you’d like to get the context. http://new.livestream.com/discoverybaptistgigharbor/events/2573140/videos/35717201

December 5, 2013This is hard hitting, Caleb. It really makes me take a deep look at myself, because if I’m honest I’m not chasing Christ like I want to be.
Caleb
December 11, 2013I think that this is an area of life that we must constantly watch over. It’s amazing how things can sneak in there and take our attention away from Jesus.
