What happens on Palm Sunday in Ukraine?

A donkey showed up at church for the kids to ride on!
Everywhere you look people are carrying pussy willows and sometimes flowers too. These babushkas were pleased to have their picture taken with Noelle. After the service I took Noelle on a “dad date” downtown.
Thousands of pussy willow branches are sold by the entrance to every Orthodox church. Why pussy willows? Because there are no palm trees here and pussy willows are one of the first trees to bud in the Spring.

Noelle and I went inside the church too. The church was busy with hundreds of worshipers lighting candles and kissing the icons. Noelle was a little shocked when she saw the priest dousing everyone with “holy water”! She said, “let’s not go over there, I don’t want to get all wet!”
