Every two years our mission ABWE holds a regional conference for missionaries in Eastern and Central Europe. This time the conference was in Bulgaria (poorest country in the EU) so we decided to pack the kids into the van and save some money by driving.
Last week we made the long trek home from Bulgaria to Odessa, Ukraine. With 3 border crossings and a few bad sections of road the trip was 17+ hours on the way down with a car load of kids! I was hoping that our trip home would be a little faster.
We made record time to the border of Romania/Moldova but computer problems on the border halted progress and it took us 3 hours to cross. We only needed to go about 30 miles through Moldova before we reached the Ukrainian border.
Everyone breathed a little sigh of relief once we entered Ukraine, now we had just 3 hours left before we were home! Unfortunately the Moldovan potholes combined with a full van eventually resulted in our back tire blowing out. Thankfully, we had friends traveling with us and together we managed to replace the blown out tire with the spare.
We finally arrived home a little around 3am after about 19 hours on the road we were ready to get horizontal and catch up on some sleep!
